I discovered Teo following a referral, as a YouTube channel of interest that may be overlooked.

Unlike most Teo does not seek what many might consider ‘good’ lighting, his main body of work dares to focus on extremely flat lighting such as that found during heavy fog, rain or even at night. Leo uses the lack of light and contrast to produce mysterious and moody images, often using himself as a secondary element to add a focal point to his work.

Otherwise Teo captures unassuming images of everyday life, simple images that could be unfairly classified as ‘snapshots’ by those unwilling to search for the story within, but provide records of of everyday life in the simplest of terms.

About the Artist

Teo describes himself on his website bio as following;

“Teo Crawford is a photographer and film maker based in Austria. His photography focuses on an artistic approach to the medium and mostly consists of thick foggy weather, self portraits and details of the everyday life.”

Source of inspiration

What really inspires me about Teo is his willingness to stray from contemporary themes, to experiment and through his videos share with us his journey. Not only does Teo share his successes, he is prepared to analyze his failures and when unsure engages with his audience for advice.

Living as he does in Austria it would be easy for Teo to fall into capturing the grand vistas we know of that area, but his desire to find interest in the most basic world around him should inspire all to consider what might be on their own doorsteps.
