finessing the location
Past projects using the followICM technique have primarily focused on capturing interesting subjects—starting with the proof of concept and gradually incorporating more elements into the scene.
Although the environment was often considered, it was never treated as the main focus. While in many cases the background played a supporting role in building the story, more often than not, distracting elements were introduced that detracted from the overall image.
During my most recent visit to New York, I decided to take a different approach. This time, I shifted my attention to selecting locations that would better complement the technique — these were simpler environments with kinder and more consistent lighting.
After identifying suitable locations, I then assumed the role of an observer. By patiently waiting for interesting subjects to enter the frame, I was able to apply the followICM technique drawing from lessons learned in earlier experiments.. I’m very pleased with the results, as I believe the softer, cleaner backgrounds are much better suited to this technique.
I’ll leave you with a slideshow of images from this trip, inviting you to form your own opinion.
